أظهرت لقطات فيديو "نيزكا عملاقا" عبر سماء البرتغال وإسبانيا، ليلة السبت، وأبهر الملايين بكرة نارية زرقاء أضاءت سماء الليل. وشوهد الجسم السماوي وهو يتدفق عبر الغلاف الجوي، ويضيء السحب بلون أزرق مشابه لإضاءة نيون ساطعة، لمدة 7 ثوان تقريبا. وقالت وكالة الفضاء الأوروبية إن النيزك يبدو أنه قطعة من مذنب انفصل وقفز إلى الغلاف الجوي للأرض على ارتفاع حوالي 60 كيلومترا. وكان النيزك يحلق بسرعة 2700 كيلومتر في الساعة. وتلقت السلطات تقارير عن سقوط جسم من السماء في مدينة فيسيو، لكنها لم تتمكن من تحديد موقع تحطم محتمل أو تحديد ما إذا كان أي من النيزك قد سقط على الأرض، وفقا لصحيفة "بابليكو" البرتغالية. وتقع فيسيو في وسط البرتغال، على بعد حوالي 320 كيلومترا شمالي عاصمة البلاد لشبونة. بينما قالت وكالة الفضاء الأوروبية إنه من غير المرجح أن تصل أي قطعة من النيزك إلى الأرض.
